- Committees
- Several committees are of importance to
students. They are described below. Although students may only be members of the TEAC and
CET, actions of the other committees impact students involved in teacher preparation.
-
- Department of
Education Committee (DOEC)
- The members of the Department of Education
Committee (DOEC) are full time departmental faculty members. The committee meets weekly to
plan, coordinate, and respond to the actions of other committees.
-
- Teacher
Education Committee (TEC)
- The members of the Teacher Education
Committee (TEC) are full time departmental faculty members and representatives from all
other departments within the school of Arts and Science (Mathematics, English, Science,
Social Science, Physical Education). Each department selects its representative to the
committee. The committee meets three weeks prior to the beginning of each semester. The
primary purpose of the committee is to respond to student requests that departmental rules
for program admission be waived. The committee, by majority vote, reaches a decision. A
special meeting of the committee may be called by the chair of the Departmental of
Education.
-
- The TEC also proposes standards and policy
revision. In these matters, recommendations are forwarded to the DOEC for final action. In
some cases, action by the ASAC may then be necessary (i.e. major curricular change).
-
- Teacher
Education Advisory Committee (TEAC)
- The members of the Teacher Education
Advisory Committee (TEAC) include all full time departmental faculty members, area school
administrators, business personnel, elementary education students (current and graduate),
secondary education students (current and graduate), and area elementary and secondary
teachers. The committee meets two times each year, or more frequently if necessary, to
examine departmental programs and make recommendations leading to program improvement and
policy change. Students are selected to serve on the committee when positions become
available. A student must write a letter expressing interest. Selection is by majority
vote of the Departmental of Education Committee.
-
- Arts and
Science Advisory Committee (ASAC)
- The members of the Arts and Science Advisory
Committee are the chairs of the various Arts and Science departments. The committee meets
regularly to coordinate course schedules, to eliminate time conflicts, to take action on
issues of importance to the School, and to make decisions regarding curricular change.
Proposals for new courses and programs are submitted to the committee for approval.
-
- Department of
Education Committee on Educational Technology (CET)
- The issues surrounding the use of multimedia
presentations for educators and technological information gathering by teachers and
students are of major concern to the Department of Education. This area changes rapidly
and vastly affects the way educators will use technology in future classrooms. The
Department of Education Committee on Education Technology was formed to investigate these
and to address technological advances in educational methodology which directly impact
future teachers.
-
- The members of the Committee on Educational
Technology include representatives from the Department of Education faculty, the
university computer center, area schools' media personnel, and students.
