Thunder Strikes in the MIAA Conference
MIAA all-Conference
Junior Joel Bickel (Syracuse, IN) is the 2005 MIAA conference medalist in golf. Setting a new conference record for the best average over the season, he averaged 71.2 strokes per round in over eight conference jamborees. He also set a new standard in the MIAA with an all-time low round of 37-28-65 at The Medalist. He has garnered All-MIAA first team honors for the second consecutive season.
Senior Matt Haneline (Indianapolis, IN) was named to the All-MIAA first team in golf. Haneline was a tournament medalist at the MIAA jamboree held at Zollner Golf Course with a round of 68, which tied the MIAA course record.
Senior Jordan Schroeder (Ottawa, OH) was named to the All-MIAA second team in golf. Schroeder shot an average of 76.1 during the fall season.
Junior Brittny Kempers-Makohn (Jackson, MI) was named to the All-MIAA second team in golf. On the season, she shot an average of 89.8 per round. Kempers-Makohn had her best finish of the season at the MIAA Jamboree held at Bedford Valley Country Club. She placed third with a round of 84.
Freshman Curt Daniels (Huntington, IN) was named to the All-MIAA second team in cross country with a 14th place finish in the MIAA Championships. Daniels finished the 8k meet with a time of 26:25.3. As a team, the Thunder placed fifth in the conference standings.
Freshman Nathan Fitzsimmons (Warsaw, IN) was named to the All-MIAA second team in football as punter. Fitzsimmons had 68 punts for 2,497 yards with a career-long punt of 68 yards. Fitzsimmons was third in the MIAA with an average of 36.7 yards per punt.
Junior Maurice Brookins (Indianapolis, IN) was named to the All-MIAA second team in basketball. This led the Thunder to a fifth place finish in the MIAA. Brookins led the Thunder with 12.4 points per game, which placed him eighth and TSU fifth in the conference. Brookins led the MIAA with 3.14 three-point field goals made per game and was sixth in three-point field goal percentage at .400.
Senior Shanna Hoogenboom (Goshen, IN) was named to the All-MIAA second team in basketball. She was second in the MIAA with 16.2 points per game and fourth in total rebounds at 6.7 per game.
Junior Chris Wolf (Springfield, OH) was named the 2006 Midstate's wrestling conference champion in the 285 pound weight class. Wolf becomes the first TSU wrestler to win this award. He finished the season with an overall record of 20-16.
Honorable Mention
Freshman Tony Benford (Muncie, IN) was named honorable mention in men's baskeball for averaging 10 points per game and 1.29 steals.
Senior Kayla Cheesman (West Point, IN) was named honorable mention in women's basketball for averaging 3.5 assists and 14 points per game.
Sophomore Dana Dunham (Angola, IN) was named honorable mention in women's basketball for contributing an average of 8 points and 1.5 three-point field goals per game.
Junior Justin Guy (Martinsville, IN) was named honorable mention in men's basketball for handing out an average of 3.21 assists per game. He was eighth in the conference with 23 offensive rebounds.
Sophomore Andre Patrick (Skokie, IL) was named honorable mention in men's basketball for averaging 7.8 points and 2.9 rebounds per game.
