United Way Community Support Breakfast
In support of Steuben County United Way, I attended the Support Breakfast with community, industry, and education leaders from the area. The United Way revealed their $250,000 campaign goal, which will go toward sustaining and maintaining their 21 support agencies. While at the breakfast, we heard presentations from three of the agencies—Community Anti-Violence Alliance (CAVA), Turning Point Shelter, and Women in Transition.
TSU Community Expo
Over 70 campus organization representatives and various community organizations attended the TSU Community Expo event on Stewart Lawn. The well-attended event featured area information, games, and prizes for students to enjoy.
Master Program Launch
With the help of Dr. David Finley, Dr. Roger Hawks, and Dr. Ramiro Bravo, I welcomed those in attendance at the Master of Engineering Open House on Friday, August 31. The new program incorporates advanced design skills meant to prepare mechanical engineers for an ever-changing job market. The program can be utilized by undergraduates, who can take advantage of the five year program, or graduates, who can take classes in the early evening at their convenience .
Campaign Executive Committee
The Campaign Executive Committee welcomed two new members at our Tuesday, Sept. 5 meeting. Gary Hohenberger, CEO of Angola Wire, and Dennis Knapp, CEO/Administrator of Cameron Hospital, will now serve on the 13 member committee. The committee offers counsel and support for our the capital campaign, Vision for the Future.
Admission Counselor Breakfast
At the Admission Counselor Breakfast, area counselors from Eastside, Hamilton, Prairie Heights, Garrett, Angola, and North Central High School of Pioneer, Ohio were welcomed to campus. Ivy Tech, Glen Oaks, Northwest State, and Kellogg Community Colleges were also in attendance. After thanking the counselors for their partnership, the master plan for TSU was presented.
Governor Fukuda and the Tochigi Delegation
The governor and representatives from our Japanese sister state, Tochigi, visited campus on their way to the 2006 Midwest U.S.-Japan Association Conference in Indianapolis. During the visit a new scholarship for Tochigi students was announced and a tree was planted in honor of Governor Fukuda. The purpose of the visit was to help strengthen ties between the two states in order to create structure for an exchange program with Japanese educational institutions.
Visiting with a friend
On a trip to Granville, Ohio, my wife, Melanie, and I had a good time visiting with Mrs. Robert Turner. Mr. Turner was on the Board of Trustees since 1995. He passed away in May of 2005.
Homecoming “Touch the Future”
I encourage all of you to take part in the Homecoming festivities, Sept. 21-23, as we celebrate how TSU is touching the future. Let us welcome our alumni, friends, and perspective students as we celebrate this special time in TSU history.
