ON-CAMPUS EMPLOYERS
The Federal Work Study (FWS) program is designed to promote part-time employment for students who qualify for help in financing their education. The Financial Aid Office provides a wide range of student career opportunities while supporting departmental needs within the University and community.
The Federal Work Study is a federally funded program subject to strict regulations and an annual audit. We rely on each department to complete its portion of the process within the specified time frames to ensure payment is made to all students on time.
Becoming a FWS Employer
Departments within Tri-State University may qualify as FWS employers if they have been given a FWS allocation by the Business Office. This allocation represents the 100% dollar amount given to your department and the total amount students working in your department may earn. TSU Budget Managers budget for Federal Work Study student employees, with approval from the Vice President for Finance. Departmental budgets are charged 75% of wages with the other 25% of wages being charged back to the general TSU operating budget.
Creating and Posting Job Positions
Departments that have opportunities for work study students may create and post job listings online. In order to post a job online, the department must submit their listing to the Financial Aid Office, specifically the Work Study Coordinator.
Deadlines
Fall Semester:
Job postings need to be to the Work Study Coordinator by June 15.
Spring Semester:
Job postings need to be to the Work Study Coordinator by November 15.
Hiring a Work Study Student
Those departments with available positions will complete the hiring process and return the TSU Authorization Form for Student Workers, designating who is hired, to the Financial Aid Office for final approval prior to that student’s start date.
