Please feel free to contact International Student Services for transportation down town. Options for local and out-of-town transportation also include:
- STAR: provides transportation in Steuben County from 8 to 4 pm, Monday though Friday. You must call and tell them your location for them to pick you up. The cost is $2 for each one-way trip within Angola City limits and $5 for each one-way trip outside Angola City limits. Call (260) 665-9856 for more information.
- Taxi Serivice: is offered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You may have to wait for at least half an hour, so make sure to call in advance if you know when you will be going. Call (260) 688-7267 for more information.
Bank Account
Open a bank account at one of the banks in the area. Make sure to take your passport, visa, and I-94 with you.
License
Obtain your Indiana State ID or driver's license. Either of these cards may be used for officeal identification when cashing checks or for official identification. Click here for more information on how to obtain a driver's license.
Cell Phones
Many international students have said it is difficult to get a cell phone without a social security number. The best option is apply for a prepaid plan. Prepaid means you have to pay a fee (according to your rate-plan) a month in advance, and you can terminate the service any time you like. Plans range from $39.99 per month for 450 minutes to $69.99 per month for 650 minutes. Each plan has different options for weekend and night minutes. To get a prepaid phone, go to Wal-Mart on North Wayne.
Long Distance/International Phone Calls
A good way of avoiding high charges on your phone is to purchase a calling card. Cards are available at Meijer, Wal-Mart, and most convenient stores.
Another popular option to call long distance is through SKYPE. This is a software program that allows you to call anywhere around the world for significantly cheaper than what you would on a land line or cell phone. Go to www.skype.com for more information.
