WHAT TO BRING!

Clothing: Because of the variation in seasons, it is important to have both light and warm clothing, as well as rain wear. The summer is pretty warm in Angola. Temperatures range from 10 to 25 degrees C. In contrast, the winter season is very cold (-6 to 8 degrees C) and snowy. You may wish to buy at least some basic items before you leave home. Warm clothes (such as sweaters and a coat) are essential!

Immigration Documents: Make sure to bring the following documents. Carry these documents with you (not in your luggage) when you travel.

  • Passport
  • VISA
  • I-20
  • I-94
  • Insurance card

Medication: It is a good idea to bring a copy of your medical records. If you have a chronic medical condition, ask your physician to write a short medical history (in English).

Miscellaneous Items: The international students of Tri-State have started showing interest in sharing about their culture. Some activities they have arranged include dinners, social get-togethers, International Night, and discussion groups. You may wish to bring items of cultural interest (such as photos, books, slides, musical instruments, traditional clothing, music, etc.) if there is any room in your luggage. Be sure to bring some recipes with you if you plan to cook traditional food from your home! Also, please remember that most electronic outlets in the U.S. give 110-volt AC. If you plan to bring appliances from your country, make sure it is the same voltage or bring an adapter with blade-like prongs (not rounded).

What NOT to Bring: For safety reasons, toasters, hotplates, candles, or anything with an open flame or exposed heating element are not allowed.

TELL US WHEN YOU WILL ARRIVE!

Tri-State University provides transportation services to meet flights. This is possible ONLY if we have advance notice of your arrival day and time! You should plan your travel so that you arrive in Fort Wayne International Airport. We will need to know which airline, flight number(s), date, and time of arrival. If this changes for any reason (missed your flight, flight delayed, placed on wrong flight, plans change, etc.) please call or fax us a message.

The Office of Student Life is open 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, Monday through Friday (except holidays). Our telephone number is 260.665.4646 and our fax number is 260.665.4168. If you call after hours or during the weekend, please contact Campus Safety at 260.665.4825.
