to use those funds at TSU, while taking ROTC courses once a week at the University of Notre Dame.
A “crosstown” agreement with the Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. opened up a U.S. Air Force training program to Tri-State University students for the first time in the fall semester 2007.
The agreement enables students earning ROTC scholarships to use those funds to attend school at TSU, while taking ROTC courses one day a week at the University of Notre Dame. ROTC enables those striving for a military career to enter the Air Force as a second lieutenant, a commissioned officer.
In addition, students who did not enter TSU with ROTC scholarships can take advantage of up to $15,000 yearly in ROTC scholarships by enrolling in the program during college. Since ROTC requires two full years of participation, freshmen and sophomores will benefit from an early commitment to the program.
TSU students attend the ROTC classes and leadership lab at the University of Notre Dame on Tuesday afternoons and evenings (transportation is provided by TSU).
Dr. David R. Finley, TSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, said the Air Force particularly desires the skill set supplied by electrical engineering students. However, the program is open to students in any degree field. “We’re thrilled with this new partnership with the Air Force and the
University of Notre Dame,” Finley said. “This is a unique opportunity for students to learn leadership skills, serve their country, and launch their careers, all while earning significant scholarships toward the cost of tuition.”
