To Do List for International Students

The following credentials are needed to complete an application for international admission:

  • International Student Application is available online only (no application fee) at: http://www.tristate.edu/admission/todoint.cfm (APPLY NOW button), and must be received no later than May 1, for Fall Term 2008 consideration.  To be certain that ample time is provided for processing international student applications, your application and credentials must be completed 60 days prior to the beginning of the term  (deadline:  June 26, 2008).  Classes begin on August 26, 2008.
  • Secondary Academic Records – please send all secondary school academic records in English to:

Scott J. Goplin

Tri-State University

1 University Avenue

Angola, IN   46703

USA

Records should include courses taken, grades received and degrees or certificates earned.  An explanation of your school’s coding system used to evaluate your work should accompany the records.

  1. Post Secondary Records - All post secondary records (including those achieved in the U.S. and those achieved outside the U.S.) will also need to be sent to me.  Only classes that are a “C” grade or better will be considered for transfer credits.
  1. Test Requirements – International students must provide a score from the TOEFL (code is 1811), ACT (code is 1250) or SAT (code is 1811).  A minimum TOEFL score of 550 on the paper test, 213 on the computerized version or 79-80 on the iBT.  The TOEFL can be substituted by the IELTS exam with a minimum score of 6.0 overall and a 5.5 minimum on any one test section. SAT and ACT minimum scores depend on the academic programs you plan to pursue.
  1. Financial Statement Guarantee – The United States Department of Homeland Security regulations require international students to demonstrate the ability to finance their four-year education prior to the official release of an I-20 AB form.  Tri-State University will accept a dated bank statement with official signature and/or the College Board’s International Student Certification of Finances form (upon request). This statement must prove that the applicant has access to funds totaling a minimum of $30,150 U.S. dollars.

Your application will be reviewed for an official admission decision after all of the above credentials are received.   If admitted, you will be requested to submit a one-time fee of $1,500 and $150 Housing Deposit prior to the release of an I-20 AB form.  This fee will be used to cover expenses such as the process of documents, bedding/towel supplies, food during holiday breaks, transportation and miscellaneous items (over a four-year enrollment).   Please note that TSU has no control over the approval of an F-1 Visa, which sometimes can result in the student’s visa request being denied.
