Dear fellow classmate of 1958:

Please mark your calendars for September 25, 26, and 27 and plan to join us at our 50th reunion celebration! The University has already started making plans for another great homecoming weekend and has a lot of exciting events planned – including special events just for us.

Two years ago a new tradition was established; whereby the 50th reunion class presents the University with a gift in recognition of their special event. Last year, the class of 1957 contributed over $50,000 to match dollar for dollar a challenge gift of $50,000 and established an endowed scholarship in the name of their class. The endowed fund will provide a student with a scholarship of around $5,000 a year. What a wonderful gift and it will remain their legacy for all time.

Our class would like to present the same challenge and both John and I are working together along with the development department to make this happen.  If you would like to be part of the lead gift, please contact us. It is our goal to present a ’58 class gift of $58,000 times two! This will establish an endowment of $116,000. It is a wonderful opportunity to give something back to our school and to help a young student obtain a great education.

I hope you are aware of the fantastic progress the University has made in the last seven to eight years. If you haven’t visited, the restored and new buildings will simply amaze you and you will see a very beautiful campus. Enrollment is up substantially, new programs have been added including Master’s degrees, and 22 inter-collegiate athletic programs now compete in NCAA Div. III. The University is moving forward and becoming a premier private University in the mid-west. So, if you haven’t been back in recent years, now is the time to return.

We hope that every 1958 graduate will contribute to the Class of ‘58 Endowed Scholarship Fund. Let’s set a new larger tradition. Let’s have every ‘58 grad contribute and match the challenge to raise $116,000.  In honor of our golden anniversary, may we ask for you to consider making a gift or pledge in the amount of $1958; this could be a one-time gift or pledge. We simply ask that all pledges be paid by May 31, 2009 and for your convenience, a pledge card has been enclosed. Should you have any questions about the challenge, feel free to contact any one of us.

We look forward to seeing you at homecoming and reminiscing about our days at good old Tri-State.

Sincerely,
