After three years of provisional status, Tri-State University became a full active member of the NCAA Division III on Sept. 1. The Thunder is now eligible for all NCAA Division III championships and national rankings. Tri-State has been a full member of the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association since 2004-05, when the Thunder became a provisional NCAA member. In the summer of 2006, TSU was granted a waiver that jumped its provisional status from year two to year four. The waiver was granted due to Tri-State’s compliance with the Division III rules and regulations. Green Mountain College of Poultney, Vt., Keystone College of La Plume, Penn., and The University of Texas at Tyler were approved along with TSU by the Division III Management and Presidents councils during an Aug. 9 meeting in Indianapolis.
