Dr. Don Jones, a former college debater and coach, is
an expert on persuasion and public relations, reasoning,
and science communication. He has been a speech writer and
also a communication consultant and trainer for corporate,
governmental, and nonprofit organizations. Don is a strong
chess player who loves hiking.
Internal Accomplishments (service)
• Member, Ad Hoc Committee to revise the Faculty Governance
Document
• Member, Ad Hoc Committee on Faculty Recruitment
and Retention
• Member of three departmental committees (Media and
Technology, Curriculum, and Assessment)
• Member, Barrenbrugge Selection Committee
• Conducted and wrote an extensive review of the communication
program and a proposal for improving the program’s
recruitment
• Developed methods for integrating campus media (WEAX,
the Triangle, and the Modulus) and a digital video lab into
Communication courses
• Gave presentations on the communication and English
programs at Open Houses and other recruiting events
• Wrote strong persuasive content for a recruitment
flyer and Web pages about the communication program
• Wrote e-mails to all prospective (accepted) communication
majors
External Accomplishments/Activities
• Represented TSU at the FACET (Faculty Colloquium
on Excellence in Teaching) Summer Institute on Global Citizenship
(contributed
key ideas that were incorporated into the Institute’s
