Associate professor Craig Laker chairs the fastest growing
academic program at TSU—the Department of Criminal
Justice, Psychology and Social Sciences. His many degrees
cover a breadth of knowledge, making him an excellent fit
for a department so diverse. Laker completed coursework
toward a Doctorate of Philosophy from the University of
Cincinnati, a Master's of Art, majoring in criminal justice;
a Master's of Public Affairs, a Bachelor's of Science, and
a certificate of business studies from Indiana University.
Joining TSU in 1999, he teaches courses on institutional
corrections and correctional law, public administration,
micro/macro economics, and serial killers. He teaches
classes on the main campus, TSU North and Ft. Wayne, and
Four County Vocational. His research interests include
probation and parole, serial killers, white collar crime, sociology of
deviance, juvenile incarceration, intermediate sanctions,
and animal laws.
Aside from teaching classes, Laker is involved in a plethora
of outside activities as well, including adviser for Delta
Chi Fraternity, American Criminal Justice Association (ACJA),
and the hand-gun team on campus. Off-campus he is active
in the Steuben County Humane, the Board of Chain of Lakes
Correctional Facility, and the executive board ACJA.
Before coming to TSU, Laker was an instructor at Indiana
University, University of Cincinnati and Concordia University. He also has work
experience as a probation officer, a behavioral health
technician, law enforcement officer, and youth care worker.
Internal Accomplishments (service)
• Hosted the ACJA Region 6 Conference in South Bend,
IN. Twelve students
and I competed against seven other universities in CSI,
handgun, physical agility and written exams.
• Advisor–ACJA and to the Tri-State University
Handgun Competition Team.
• Hosted day long ACJA Symposium on Domestic Violence
for area criminal justice practitioners.
• Actively involved with recruitment of criminal
justice students, campus visits, open houses, and Four
County Vocational Cooperative presentation
• Assist the branch campuses with criminal justice
programs and instruct at the Fort Wayne Campus and TSU
North
• Develop partnerships with the area criminal justice
practitioners and assist in marketing of criminal justice
degree and internships in the
day and School of Professional Studies
• Chairman of the Honorary Degree Committee
• Administrative Representative on several disciplinary
boards regarding TSU students
