Bio:

Gail Lugo is the director of the newly re-established ESL program.  She received both her bachelor’s and her master’s degrees in Applied Linguistics from Indiana University in Bloomington with a concentration in Intercultural Communication. She taught EFL in Japan for four years, and then she studied French at Alliance Francais in Paris, France, for six months.

Returning to the United States, over the next six years, she was contracted to teach various Developmental English and ESL courses in and around Fort Wayne. Eventually she took the position of ESL director at Indiana Tech in Fort Wayne, IN. She directed the program for eight years until, like many ESL programs throughout the country, Indiana Tech’s ESL program was dissolved after the September 11th terrorists attacks.

She then became an ESL instructor and GED preparatory tutor at the Educational Opportunity Center in Fort Wayne, IN.

Mrs. Lugo joined TSU in August of 2007 and built the ESL program from the ground up. She is currently the sole full-time faculty member in the ESL department, but hopes that the program will grow quickly.  In the Fall of 2007, she taught 18 hours of ESL classes on top of coordinating the program with four adjunct faculty members.

On the weekends, she volunteers for the Window on the World ESL Program through First Assembly of God in Fort Wayne. Her hobbies include genealogy, etymology, and word games. She also enjoys watching American football and is a Formula 1 fan.
