Dr. Steven Schonefeld is an associate professor in
the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. At
TSU for 27 years, he has taught calculus, differential
equations, applied math, pre-calculus, numerical analysis,
and linear algebra. He earned his bachelor’s, master’s
and doctorate degrees from Purdue University. Schonefeld
is the head of the high school math competitions in the
area, organizing nearly 200 future mathematicians. In
his free time, he enjoys focusing his attention on his
artistic abilities which include wood carving and graphic/computer
art.
Internal Accomplishments (service)
• Using the Computer Algebra System, DERIVE, as
an aid to teaching calculus
• Using DE TOOLS (provided on a CD with our Differential
Equations book) to help the students understand differential
equations
• Member of the Faculty Ethics Committee
• Coordinator of the Tri-State High School Mathematics
Competition
External Accomplishments/Activities
• Attended the Dresden International Symposium of
Technology and its Integration into Mathematics Education,
July 20-23, 2006 in Dresden, Germany. Gave a talk at this
Symposium
• Attended the fall Indiana Section meeting of the MAA at Manchester College on October 27, 2007
• Served as a judge at the Regional Science Fair
held at Tri-State University
