Bio:

Former board member of the Indiana Humanities Council and Ft. Wayne public radio, Dr. Tom Tierney teaches 17th- and 18th-c. British literature classes, Mythology, & Architectural Appreciation. A trophy-winning pocket billiards player, he has taught an Honor’s Seminar on Pool & Literature.

Internal Accomplishments (service)

• Rewrote “Why You Should Read Literature” handout for Introduction to Literature and upper-level literature classes
• Wrote my third “From the Gallery” article for the alumni magazine, Discover
• Wrote a brief article on the death of Dr. Rudolph Stoeckel, an unforgettable teacher and former chair of the English Department, for Discover

External Accomplishments/Activities

• Served on the Steuben County Community Foundation Humanities Advisory group. I arranged a fundraiser in Wells Theater which raised over $900 for the group’s summer scholarships for area youth to attend arts, humanities, or music summer camps
• Created “Why You Should Read X” series for the second time. There were three events, including one by Angola City Attorney, Kim Shoup
• Coordinating the Cunningham Essay contests for high school and Tri-State students. English faculty at TSU and Angola High School English teachers will have students participating. This is an ancillary event to Steuben READ Express
• Gathered and led the TSU Humanities Institute/Community committee which presented Steuben READ Express (the community reading project). There were five events. I also wrote the copy for the flier and arranged some events, including the panel discussion in Wells Theater and the Haitian art show which appeared at Tri-State University, Carnegie Public Library and the Fremont library
