Practical Courses, Projects, Practicum and Internships
In an early "cornerstone" course, you learn about
career and job options and what the skills, daily responsibilities,
salaries, and projected demands are for each option. You also
learn techniques to win a strong entry-level position, such as resume planning, professional portfolio
development, networking, and effective use of internships.
In numerous courses, you will apply your knowledge and skills
to real communication problems and situations.
Our program is designed to adapt to your individual interests.
For example, you can receive credit for professionally-supervised
on-campus activities, such as working at our state-of-the-art
radio station (WEAX) or working on the campus newspaper or yearbook.
At WEAX, a professional broadcaster assists you in learning various
aspects of radio operations, including on-air, program development,
promotions, underwriting, and management. Independent study
and topics courses, elective internships, and your choice of either
a senior project or a senior internship help you to focus on your
future career.
