Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is comprised of woodwind, brass, and percussion musicians. Its repertoire is selected from a wide variety of high quality literature for symphonic band and wind ensemble. Examples of the literature may include orchestral transcriptions, works written specifically for wind ensemble, lighter works such as movie music arrangements, and many more. The Wind Ensemble performs at concerts as well as at TSU athletic events. A portion of its rehearsal time will be devoted to preparing pep band music for football and basketball games. However, the Wind Ensemble’s main focus will be rehearsing and performing high quality music for concerts.

Pep Band
The Pep Band is an extension of the Wind Ensemble. Its goal is to provide rousing entertainment at TSU athletic events. It performs at football and basketball games as well as other special events. The literature of the Pep Band may include anything from blues to rock and modern pop. Any music is fair game for the Pep Band as long as it is entertaining.

TSU Royale Chorus
The TSU Royale Chorus is open to all students and faculty at the university. It is a mixed ensemble with soprano, alto, tenor, and bass voicing. The Chorus offers opportunities for both beginning and advanced vocalists. Literature is selected which lifts people’s hearts and spirits by incorporating a large diversity of music. The TSU Royale Chorus performs at concerts and special events.

String Ensemble
The Tri-State String Ensemble is a chamber ensemble consisting of violins, violas, ‘celli, and bass viols. It is open for all students, faculty, and community members. The music will be selected according to the experience of the members and will be of a wide variety. The String Ensemble will perform at concerts in campus venues such as the University Center, Wells Theatre, and Best Auditorium. It will also perform in off campus venues. String Ensemble is currently extra-curricular.

Jazz Band
The TSU Jazz Band is open to all Tri-State University students and faculty. It utilizes the Count Basie instrumentation of two alto saxophones, two tenor saxophones, one baritone saxophone, four trombones, four trumpets, and a rhythm section comprised of piano, guitar, trap set, bass, and vibes. The Jazz Band performs on campus and in concert venues around the area. Once the TSU Jazz Band is established, top jazz artists will be invited to perform as guest artists.

Distant Thunder Jazz Combo
Distant Thunder is the TSU jazz combo which will feature students and faculty interested in more of a free form of performance. The combo will focus more on improvisation and perform mainly standard tunes and from fake books. Distant Thunder performs at concerts in conjunction with the Jazz Band, in the new University Center, in Tri-State’s own coffee shop Centennial Station, and in other venues off campus. This ensemble is currently extra-curricular.

Winter Guard
A performance opportunity that is often neglected at the university level is Winter Guard. Indiana boasts one of the finest winter guard circuits in the United States. Tri-State University is proud to offer winter guard as an extra-curricular opportunity for those students who are interested in continuing and improving their skills in dance, flag, rifle, saber, and other equipment. The TSU Winter Guard will perform at select football games, basketball games, and other special performances.
