2003 Outlook

Tri-State University women’s volleyball head coach, Alena Krug, is looking to rebuild and stabilize the squad in her second season. Coach Krug is excited about the players she has returning and about the newcomers that will be joining the squad. After losing only one player to graduation, outside hitter Shaelie Foote, the Thunder will look to incorporate returning players with the group of talented newcomers.

Senior Kiley Adolph returns to the lineup after suffering season-ending ACL damage to her knee. She is expected to pick up right where she left off, which includes being named to the All-WHAC second team her freshman year. Junior Desire Nipple has a  great ability to run different offensive sets successfully.

Coach Krug is also looking for leadership from an experienced group of sophomores, including Lexi Balsis, Nicole Maddalone and Katie Papach. Balsis led the team in blocks per game her freshman year. Maddalone will be looked upon to play many different positions to utilize her versatility, which was noted by her being named the team MVP in 2002.

Emily Vedder, Rainbow Bednaski, Katie Whitfield, Stacey Adolph, Shannon Miller, Erin Long, Erin Brockert, Sarah Plescher, Nastacia Hall, Alaycia Hall, Kristen Mapes and Jamie Steiner are a part of a freshman class that Coach Krug looks to make a contribution to the team. “The team will work hard,” claimed Coach Krug. “We need to prove our success to ourselves first. The wins will follow.”
