Tri-State Women’s Soccer Blows out Saint Mary- of-the-Woods 

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team shut out Saint Mary’s of the Woods by a score of 10-0 on today’s homecoming game.  Leading the Thunder in scoring were Stephanie Vogelpohl with three goals on the day, followed by Rachel Warren with two of her own.  Nikki Stringham, Colleen Stuck, Jenny Sharkey and Jackie Havenaar all chipped in one goal a piece.  Nikki Stringham also had two assists on the day. 

            Tri-State now improves to 2-6-1 on the season and remains 0-6-1 in the conference.  Saint Mary-of-the-Woods drops to 2-7-4 on the season.

            Next the Thunder will travel to Saint Mary’s for a conference game on Tuesday.

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Just Misses Win Over Calvin

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team lost a close battle to Calvin College by a score of 3-2.  Scoring early for the Thunder was junior Nichole Stringham in the 4th minute.  Calvin answered in the 10th minute with a goal by Kara Zuidema.  Again in the second half Tri-State struck early with a goal in the 45th minute by freshmen Jackie Havenaar.  Calvin came on strong late in the second half with two goals by Jill Capel to take the lead for good. 

            Tri-State now drops to 1-6-1 on the season and 0-6-1 in the conference.  Calvin improves to 5-4-1 on the season while moving up to 4-1-1 in the conference.  Next, the Thunder will host Saint Mary’s of the Woods in a non-conference game on Saturday for homecoming.

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Defeated by Hope 

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team was defeated by Hope College 7-0.  The Thunder fell behind 3-0 in the first half and could not catch up.  Goalkeeper Krystal Park had 10 saves in the first half and Sherry Clark had 11 saves in the second half. 

            Tri-State falls to 1-5-1 overall and 0-5-1 in MIAA action.  Hope remains unbeaten in conference action at 4-0-1 and 4-2-1 overall.  Tri-State returns to the playing field on Wednesday, September 24 against Calvin.

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Loses Conference Game to Olivet 

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team lost to Olivet 5-0, with all of the goals coming in the second half.  Ann Marie Keisic scored the first Comet goal in the 52nd minute which led to a 5-0 scoring run for the Comets.  Stacey Stickney added a goal and two assists as well for the Comets. 

            The Thunder now drop to 1-4-1 on the season and 0-4-1 in the conference.  Olivet improves to 3-4-0 on the season and 1-2-0 in the conference. Next the Thunder will travel to Holland, Mich. to face conference rival Hope on Saturday.

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Falls Short to Albion

             The Tri-State University women’s soccer team lost to conference rival Albion by a score of 3-0.  The Thunder were out shot by the Britons 39-3 on the day.  Goal keeper Krystal Park came up with 15 saves for the Thunder.  Tri-State drops to a record of 1-3-1 and 0-3-3 in the conference, while Albion improves to 2-5-0 and 2-1-0 in the conference.  The Thunder will host another conference opponent, Olivet, next Tuesday.

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Drops MIAA Contest 

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team fell to MIAA conference opponent Alma College 3-2.  The Thunder fall to 1-2-1 overall and 0-2-1 in conference play.  Alma improves to 1-2 in MIAA action.

            The Thunder jumped out to an early 1-0 lead off a goal by Nikki Stringham.  Alma capitalized in the second half scoring all three goals and holding on for the victory.  Tri-State made a comeback late in the second half as Rita Vogelpohl scored off an assist from Jillian Bertoncin with nine minutes left in the game.

            Tri-State returns to the field on Saturday, September 18th at Albion College

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Defeated by Kalamazoo 

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team was defeated by Kalamazoo College 6-1.  Kalamazoo took control of the shots in the game, taking 27 shots compared to the Thunder’s eight.  Jackie Havenaar and Amanda Shaneyfelt connected for the goal and assist for the Thunder.

            Tri-State drops their record to 1-1-1 and 0-1-1 in MIAA play.  The Hornets earned their first victory of the season and are now 1-3 and 1-1 in the MIAA.  The Thunder will return to the field for another MIAA contest on Wednesday, September 15th at Alma College.

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Fights to Tie with Adrian 

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team let their 1-0 lead slip with one minute to go in the game.  Both teams were unable to take advantage of their opportunities in either overtime to take the win.  Goalkeeper Sherry Clark came up big for the Thunder with seven saves.  Nikki Stringham scored Tri-State’s goal off a penalty kick at the 84 minute mark.  Tri-State is now 1-0-1 on the season and 0-1 in MIAA play.

Tri-State Women’s Soccer Earn First Shut Out of the Season 

            The Tri-State University women’s soccer team shut out Rochester College by a score of 3-0 in the Jennifer Siersma Memorial Classic.  Tri-State took a 1-0 lead into the break on a goal from Rachel Warren off an assist from Heather Shaneyfelt.   Rachel Warren scored her second goal of the night to start the second half.  Heather Shaneyfelt sealed the victory with a goal at the 77 minute mark. 

            Action at the Siersma Memorial Classic continues tomorrow as Rochester takes on Adrian at 1:30 p.m.
