Professor
C. Denise Wagner
B.S. (University of Colorado)
M.S. (University of Houston)
I entered academia after working in industry for 7 years. I worked at NASA’s Johnson Space Center
designing space shuttle missions, training crews and serving as a shuttle robotics flight controller in the
mission control center. Within
the Allen School of Engineering and Technology I teach an introductory engineering course as well as several
engineering technology courses in product design, manufacturing and machine design. I also teach two courses
in the Entrepreneurial Minor program within the Ketner School of Business. I love teaching and try to present
my curriculum in a creative way. I like to make my classes as interactive as possible. I believe very strongly
in TSU’s mission of providing a practical, hands on education. To achieve this mission, I incorporate real
industrial projects with local companies into several of my classes. Many of my students have landed part time, summer
and permanent employment with these companies after completing their projects. Participating in these projects also
helps to keep me up to date on product and process design. My on-campus activities include serving as the faculty advisor
to TSU’s student chapter of the Society of Women Engineers and teaching at TSU’s BEST camp for middle school
students. I also visit local schools to encourage kids to pursue careers in engineering, technology, science and math. I enjoy many outside
activities as well including running, tennis, cross-country skiing, water sports and traveling. My favorite activity is spending time with
my boys (Kent and Jack) and my dog (Maggie.)
