Mission and Objectives

In concert with the University and School of Engineering mission statements, the mission of the chemical engineering program at Tri-State University is

To provide career-oriented higher education in chemical engineering by providing a learning environment in which members of a diverse student body receive personal mentoring through small classes and excellent teaching. By emphasizing "hands-on" learning, the program prepares graduates to be productive early in their careers, to advance to leadership roles in their companies and professions, and to provide service to society.

To step into a productive industrial role with a minimum transition period the chemical engineering graduate must:

  1. Speak and write effectively in a technical environment

  2. Think critically and utilize the engineering design approach to solve problems

  3. Work effectively in teams

  4. Work safely in laboratory and plant environments, being conscious of potentially unsafe conditions and taking appropriate corrective actions, as necessary

  5. Demonstrate a working knowledge of chemical engineering topics, such as mass and energy balances, unit operations, reactor design, and process control

  6. Demonstrate a well-rounded understanding of chemical and analytical principles

  7. Understand equipment operations through laboratory experiences

  8. Satisfy general education objectives (see below)

  9. Demonstrate a broad-based knowledge of engineering and sciences

  10. Utilize numerical techniques to solve chemical engineering problems

  11. Recognize and address contemporary ethical, social, and environmental concerns

  12. Synthesize the various curricular elements into a comprehensive design process

  13. Apply calculus, differential equations, and statistics to engineering problems
