Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) enacted by Congress states that once an individual reaches the age of 18, all financial and academic records belong to him/her.

This inhibits Tri-State from speaking to parents regarding their son’s or daughter’s financial or academic records, unless the student has given us written authorization.

A student can do this by completing the ACCOUNT AUTHORIZATION FORM available in the Business Office. After completing the form, it should be returned to the Business Office.
