Two great events on one day! Tri-State University is pleased to announce its Spring 2008 Symposium being held on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Public Safety Academy of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne, Indiana. In conjunction with a morning of instruction and learning, a consortium of six Indiana colleges and universities will host a career fair for employers interested in hiring students in the fields of criminal justice and human services for internships and full-time positions.
Symposium Overview:
We must prepare for the worst. Active shooter situations are a reality. School administrators, teachers, school security, local police, and emergency medical services must begin working together to prepare for violence in our schools. The spontaneous and extremely violent nature of active shooter scenarios highlights the need for school officials to be prepared.
This three-hour workshop session will cover three primary topic areas: 1) The mindset necessary to respond to active shooter situations; 2) Active shooter doctrine (law enforcement’s role as well as school policy); and 3) Preparing for the trauma that follows these situations.
Instructor Bio:
Dr. Jason Winkle is the President of the International Tactical Officers Training Association (ITOTA) and an Assistant Professor of Exercise Science at Indiana State University. He was the former Director of Combatives at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. He is the senior, contributing writer for SWAT Digest and has been published in the areas of leadership, human performance, fitness, combatives, tactics, and martial arts. His Ph.D. is in Leadership and Administration.
Career & Internship Fair :
The career fair will feature opportunities in federal, state and local law enforcement and corrections and social service agencies. Consortium members hosting the career fair include IPFW, Indiana Tech, Ivy Tech Community College, Manchester College, Taylor University Fort Wayne, and Tri-State University.
