Confidentiality

Anything that is discussed with the University counselor is held in confidence. Contact with the counselor does not become part of your academic records at Tri-State University. No information will be shared with other entities, unless you sign a release allowing specific information to be shared with designated individuals.

The counselor adheres to a professional code of ethics. State/federal laws consider information shared in counseling to be confidential as well.

The following are limitations to confidentiality:

when a person presents a danger to self or others;
when abuse of a child (or vulnerable adult) is reported or suspected; or when court ordered to release information.
