Often, students refer themselves to counseling. However, there
are instances where it is easier for a student to make an appointment
through a concerned friend, RA/RD, coach, staff member, professor,
or family member.
Students are also referred to Student Counseling Services for
violating the campus alcohol policy. In the event that this violation
occurs, the student is referred to the counselor for the Alcohol
Evaluation and Education Program. The program is designed to evaluate
problem behaviors associated with alcohol consumption and to promote
acceptable, alternative behaviors.
The referral process follows:
- Suggest that your friend call SCS while you are present, or
make the call for him/her. Sometimes it is helpful to accompany
a friend to the SCS office.
- If you are concerned about a fellow student but are uncertain
about the appropriateness of a referral, feel free to contact
the counselor for a consultation.
- If the referral is an emergency, call SCS or Student Services
immediately during office hours. After hours, call security
or the on-call RD/RD, who will then contact the counselor.
