Why see a counselor?

Counseling is a means to enhance one’s ability to effectively cope with personal, social, educational and career issues. It is a collaborative relationship between a trained helper and a person who is seeking assistance. Although many people handle challenging situations on their own, sometimes an objective viewpoint can help put issues into perspective, so they are more manageable.

Individuals report a number of benefits received from counseling, including increased self awareness, maximized personal potential, value and goal clarification, and enhanced decision-making abilities.

Student Counseling Services (SCS) was created to enhance the psychological well-being of students through empowering them to reach their full potential. SCS recognizes the ways in which the stress and pressure of college can adversely affect students.
