Emergency Shelter

Preparing for Emergencies

  • Be familiar with your building's floor plan.
  • Locate a primary emergency exit along with a back-up in case your primary exit is blocked.
  • Participate in fire and tornado drills

Shelter in Place

A "Shelter in Place" situation means that you must remain in the place you are when the order is given.

During that time:

  • Stay inside the building, preferable your office or residence hall room.
  • Seek inside shelter if outside.
  • Seal off openings to your room if possible.
  • Remain in place until you are told by emergency or University personnel that it is safe to be outside.
