Medical Emergencies

Before

  • Know the location of the nearest first aid kit.  In the residence halls, all RAs and RDs have first aid kits.  In the other buildings, the administrative assistants keep the kits in their offices.
  • Know the emergency telephone number...911.

During

  • Call 911
  • Call Campus Safety at 260.316.1877.  Provide your name and telephone number, the location of the emergency, the extent of the accident/injury, the number of people involved, and the location where someone will meet the ambulance.
  • Stay on the phone with the dispatcher and answer any questions he/she may have.
  • Do not move the injured person unless safety demands action.
  • Have someone meet medical personnel at the building entrance and escort them to the scene.
  • If trained, use pressure to stop any bleeding and provide basic life support as needed.

After

  • File an incident report with Campus Safety.
