Bomb Threats
If you receive a bomb threat:
- Ask as many questions from the bomb threat card as you can.
- If the caller hesitates, go to the next question.
- Let the caller talk as much as possible.
- Take notes on everything.
- Tell the caller that the building is occupied and that many innocent lives are endangered by the threat.
During:
- Call 911 and report the incident.
- Do not touch any suspicious objects.
- If a suspicious object is found, vacate the area.
- Follow the instructions of emergency and University personnel.
Chemical/Biological Threats
During:
- If the threat is phoned, ask caller for details using the bomb threat form.
- Contact emergency personnel at 911.
- Do not panic.
- Do not evacuate.
- Call Campus Safety (216.316.1877).
- Cooperate with all emergency and University personnel.
Emergency medical personnel will probably respond in full biological contamination gear and will treat you and the area as if they have been contaminated. This is standard procedure for their protection and yours.
Explosions
During:
- Take cover immediately under tables, desks, or similar structures that will protect you from falling objects.
- Call 911 and tell them the location, the area where the explosion occurred, cause of the explosion and the injuries.
- Evacuate the area as soon as it is safe to do so.
Questions to ask:
- When is it going to explode?
- What will cause it to explode?
- Where is it right now?
- Did you place it there? Why?
- What does it look like?
- Record the exact wording of the threat.
- What kind is it?
Record the date and time of the call
Is the caller Male? Female?
