Welcome from Dr. Sue Van Wagner, Dean
Dr. Van Wagner's Biography
The mission of the Franks School of Education
is to provide an educational atmosphere in which every teacher
candidate is inspired to become a competent, knowledgeable, caring
educator who is firmly committed to nurturing the growth of young
student learners. Teacher education is hands-on at TSU. One-on-one
advising; accessible faculty; immediate, real-world application
of classroom concepts; and a reputation for graduating exceptional
educators are recognized hallmarks of the school.
All programs are accredited by the Indiana Professional Standards
Board. (IPSB) Classes are small, interactive,
and intimate, and are taught by faculty members who have extensive
experience as elementary, middle school, or high school teachers.
Teacher candidates participate in area schools beginning their
first year, and continue frequent, ongoing classroom participation
throughout all four years at TSU. Graduates from the Franks School
of Edcuation have reputations that reflect they are well trained,
caring, talented educators who are at home in diverse classroom
settings. TSU teacher education candidates consistently earn passing
scores on state-required exams. For the most recent Title II reporting
year, all TSU program completers achieved 100 percent passing
rates on both basic skills and content knowledge specialty tests.
As a result of TSU's quality education program, area schools have
consistent praise for TSU student teachers, and frequently seek
out our well-prepared graduates.
I invite you to plan a campus
visit to learn more about the Franks School of Education.
I look forward to personally meeting with you to discuss your
goals for the future, and our mutual commitment to excellence
in education, as well.
