Sue Van Wagner, Dean of Franks School of education

A member of the TSU faculty since Sue Van Wagner 1983, Sue Van Wagner is the dean of the Franks School of Education and associate professor.  She oversees teacher preparation programs throughout the University, providing leadership in program development, accreditation, and assessment.  She also teaches courses and supervises field experiences.  She works with the following standing committees of the FSOE: Teacher Education Committee, Teacher Education Advisory Committee, Teacher Education Programs Advisory Committee, and the FSOE Committee.  She serves as a member of the Academic Council.  She has been involved in elementary and middle schools as a teacher, team leader, and department chair.   She has also been a university professor and department chair.

Dr. Van Wagner is a graduate of Michigan State University where she received her bachelor’s degree in junior high language arts/social studies education, her master's degree in curriculum and instruction, and her Ph.D. in teacher education and administration.  She completed her doctorate investigating the preparation of middle level teachers.  Her professional memberships include Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Phi Delta Kappa, Delta Kappa Gamma, Association of Teacher Educators-Indiana, Steuben County Historical Society, Indiana Middle Level Education Association, Indiana Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, National Field Directors Forum, Indiana Field Directors Forum, and Indiana Certification Advisers.  She serves on accrediting teams throughout the state of Indiana. 

She enjoys watching NCAA football and basketball.  She likes to visit the New England states; particularly Maine.  She strongly believes it is the right of all school children to have quality teachers who have broad knowledge bases, use many strategies to enhance learning, and sincerely care that all children learn.
