FIVE-YEAR BS/ME PROGRAM
TSU is one of only a few engineering schools that offers students the opportunity complete both a Bachelor of Science degree and an engineering master’s degree simultaneously. The Five-Year BS/ME program allows students in some of the engineering majors to pursue both the Bachelor of Science degree in the engineering field and the Master of Engineering degree. This program requires five academic years with one summer of study. Upon completion of the program, students receive both a BS degree and a Master of Engineering degree. Graduates of the five-year program have the engineering design skills needed to lead the design of a complex engineering system. The program also provides an excellent foundation for registration as a Professional Engineer.

Engineering bachelor’s degrees require 132 semester credit hours, and the Master of Engineering requires 32 semester credit hours. Thus, the five-year program will involve 164 semester credits of work. Students who are admitted into this program will be changed from undergraduate to graduate status after they have completed 134 credit hours, at which time they must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.8. (The grade point average requirement will be waived for students who have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination.) Students who do not meet this standard will not be given graduate status and will be awarded the appropriate bachelor’s degree when all the BS requirements have been met. Students attaining graduate status will be awarded both the Bachelor of Science in the appropriate engineering field and the Master of Engineering degree when all requirements have been completed.

Regular undergraduate scholarships and financial aid are awarded for the first four years of the program. When the student attains graduate status, a new graduate financial aid package is awarded.
