As a cooperative program of the Allen School of
Engineering and Technology and the Ketner School of Business,
Engineering Administration students take courses from many departments.
Listed below are a few of the faculty who teach courses in the
program:

Dr.
Scott Kiefer
Associate
Professor
B.S. (University
of Wisconsin-
Platteville)
M.S., Ph.D.
(North Carolina State
University)
Expertise: Mechatronics,
Computer-Aided Engineering
Design
Dr. Kiefer is an expert in mechatronics, the integration
of mechanical devices and electronics. He is the developer
of TSU’s very popular mechatronics course, which is offered
each spring. For the past few years Dr. Kiefer has been
involved in the design of firefighting robots, a student competition
in which students design and build autonomous robots capable of
locating and extinguishing fires in buildings. He is also
is the student section advisor for TSU’s Habitat for Humanity
chapter, an international group that helps build houses for the
needy. Dr. Kiefer teaches courses primarily in machine design
and computer-aided engineering design.

Dr. Steve
Carr
Associate Professor
B.Sc. (University of Ulster)
Ph.D. (Queen's University
of Belfast)
His technical specialty is in circuits and electronics.
Dr. Carr is our specialist in electric motors, and he has experience
in microwave circuits as well. He has worked in design of machinery
electromagnet wiring. He came to TSU from teaching at the University
of Virginia, and was Chair at Indiana Tech prior to that, so he
has broad experience of students and of facilities. Dr. Carr brings
an international, British flavor to our department and a different
slant on education that strengthens all our offerings.

Dr.
Kenneth W. Meeks
Professor
B.S. in physics
(U.S. Naval Academy)
B.S. and M.S.C.E. (The
Georgia Institute of Technology)
D.Sc., structural engineering (The
George Washington University)
P.E. in Louisiana and Virginia
Areas of expertise: Structures,
Engineering Materials, Construction
Engineering, and Engineering
Science.
Personal Information: “I entered academia after completing
a career as a captain in the Navy Civil Engineer Corps. My motivation
for this “second career” was to give back something
to the field of civil and environmental engineering, which had
been so good to me. Another motivation was to have the opportunity
to work with young men and women to prepare them for successful
careers in this field. I wanted to share my knowledge and experience
with them on what it takes to become a successful, young engineer.
Tri-State University has provided me with a wonderful opportunity
to do exactly what I wanted to do as a second career. Seeing our
graduates achieve remarkable success in their careers as well
as maturing as responsible, young adults makes me proud to be
making a contribution to their professional and personal growth.
The primary thing that has kept me motivated throughout my engineering
career is that what we do as civil and environmental engineers
makes the world a better place for all mankind. What a wonderful
way to spend a lifetime for any young man or women looking for
a career in which he or she can make a difference!
I enjoy several hobbies: crossword puzzles, reading, Jaguar automobiles,
walking for exercise, and college athletics. It is particularly
enjoyable to watch our student-athletes compete successfully on
the athletic field. Whenever my wife and I can get away for a
few days, we enjoy visiting my son, daughter-in-law, and two granddaughters
in Croton-on-Hudson, New York.”
