Engineering
Administration ... Responding to the Changing Needs of Industry
Engineering administration through Tri-State University’s
Allen School of Engineering and Technology, is a four-year bachelor’s
degree program that combines the fundamentals of business administration
with a strong engineering program. This is successfully achieved
by replacing the senior level design courses of the engineering
program with the business core courses. A unique feature of the
program is the engineering areas of concentration, which allows
you to tailor the program to your own interests by choosing one
of the following areas: manufacturing, construction, electronics,
or facilities management.
Our senior project course provides real-world interdisciplinary
experience for our students. A typical project team will consist
of engineering administration, mechanical engineering, electrical
engineering, management and marketing, and computer-aided drafting
and design students, all working together on an engineering design
project. Many of these projects are initiated and sponsored by
local industry.
There is a demand for technically trained people who can market
engineering products to engineers. The engineering administration
graduate is ideally prepared for a position in engineering sales
or technical marketing. Engineering administration graduates are
also ready to begin a management career as a first-line or shift
supervisor. Further, engineering administration is an excellent
preparation for MBA graduate study.
Engineering administration is at least as challenging a program
as any other engineering degree. The mathematics, science, and
engineering science requirements are the same as in any other
engineering program. As a graduate of the program you will be
prepared for a variety of career opportunities: administrator
or manager in a small engineering, or manufacturing company; manager
or supervisor of a large facility such as a manufacturing plant,
airport, hospital, stadium, or arena; departmental supervisor
in a large technological corporation; engineering marketing representative;
technical representative; or customer-service and sales engineer.
In general, you will be qualified for a position in production,
construction, marketing or sales with any firm that provides technical
services, processes, or products. Not surprisingly, starting salaries
of recent TSU engineering administration graduates have been near
$50,000.
