Student success is our main goal. The Mechanical Engineering
Department offers the following to insure that, once admitted
to the program, students will be successful:
- A faculty devoted to undergraduate teaching—Classes
are small, usually fifteen to twenty students, and each is taught
by a professor; no classes are taught by teaching assistants.
Faculty members are readily available outside of class to help
students with coursework.
- State-of-the-art facilities—The department maintains
computer laboratories that have up-to-date engineering analysis
software and hardware. The traditional laboratories emphasize
a small-group, hands-on approach to learning.
- Access to tutoring services—TSU maintains a tutoring
service that is available for most freshmen and sophomore level
math, science and engineering courses. Students receive one-on-one
tutoring from a student who has taken the course and received
formal training in tutoring. TSU offers math help sessions for
students needing help with any math class. The writing center
provides help in writing papers for other courses.
- TSU’s Center for Career Services—This service
helps to place students into full-time positions on graduation.
The office also helps to place students in summer internships
and co-operative employment assignments to enhance their opportunities
after graduation. The career services office also provides help
in resume preparation and training in developing interviewing
skills.
