Engineering technology supports engineering activities through the specialized and technically skilled application of scientific and engineering knowledge and methods. In the occupational spectrum between craftsman and engineer, it lies closest to the engineer.
 
The term “engineering technician” applies to a graduate of an associate degree program in engineering technology; the term “engineering technologist” refers to a graduate of a baccalaureate degree program.
