Q. Is there a limit on the length of a USB cable between a PC and a
peripheral device? I would like to run a 50-foot cable from the USB
port on the PC to a Bernina sewing machine.
A. Like most things in life, there are limits associated with USB cable
distances. Individual cables cannot exceed five meters, or 16.4 feet.
However, you can get around that limitation by using hubs or specialty
cables. You can use up to five hubs and five extension cables, each 5
meters long. So that gives USB a theoretical limit of nearly 100 feet.
However, your device may not support such a long, jury-rigged
contraption. Bernina may be able to give you advice on how to
