TELEPHONE SERVICES

Tri State University students are required to provide their own telephones for use in all on-campus residential facilities. All student rooms have one active telephone line for roommates to share. Each telephone line has voice mail, and a voice mail box will be set up for each student. If the two students in the room are named Tom and Sam, and neither student answers a call, the caller will be instructed to press one for Tom, press two for Sam, to leave a message. There is no monthly fee for local and toll free phone service.  Long Distance service is provided at a cost of 5 cents per minute to any location within the continental United States.

If students have any problems with long distance, telephone service or billing, contact the Telephone Office 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, at 260.665.4282.

Cost:
Long distance service costs 5 cents per minute any time, anywhere (within the continental United States). Please keep in mind that minutes are rounded up by the billing system. For example, if your call is 1.2 minutes in duration, it is charged as 2 minutes. Long distance rates are subject to change three times per year.

International calls are charged at a significantly higher rate; therefore, phone cards are a good alternative to use for international calling. To obtain this service, the student should visit the Information Technology office in Best Hall 122 to receive an authorization code. The student is responsible for any charges to this code, so he/she should not share it with others or program it into a speed dial on his/her phone. If a student loses his/her code, he/she should come to our office to cancel it.

Telephone bills are mailed to students around the 10th day of every month.  Telephone bills are payable in the Business Office in Forman Hall.  These charges will be added to the student’s billing statement if the charges are not paid by the due date indicated on the statement. If excessive phone charges have not been paid prior to registration, a student will be placed on an “on hold” status and will not be eligible to register until all charges are paid or arrangements for payment have been made.

Collect Calls:
Do NOT Accept Collect Calls unless in an emergency. Students will be charged an additional fee to his/her phone bill for accepting non-emergency collect calls.

Emergency:

In the event of an emergency, dial 9-1-1. Be sure to give the police dispatcher the name of the building and room telephone and room number. To reach Campus Safety from on-campus, dial extension 4825, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday – Friday, if no answer, dial 8 then 316.1877.  If trying to reach Campus Safety from off campus call 260.316.1877.
