   Rules for the Math Competition
- Student registration cards must be filled in and team
assignments must be completed prior to arrival.
- Each team consists of 4 students: 2 students competing at the
elementary level and 2 students at the advanced level.
- Freshman, sophomore, junior, and senior high school students
are eligible to compete.
- Placement as an elementary or advanced competitor should be
based on the students current academic ability.
- Competitors will work individually on Part 1 and will work as
teams on Part 2.
- Competition scores will be 60% on individual scores (Part 1)
and 40% on team scores
(Part 2).
- Individuals who have placed first, second, or third at the
elementary level in previous years must compete at the advanced level.
- Scholarship winners from previous years may compete at the
advanced level, but will not be eligible for the scholarship prize.
- Exams will be written and graded by professors of Tri-State
University.
- Knowledge of calculus will not be assumed. Scientific calculators may be
used. No graphing calculators, laptop computers or wireless communication
permitted in the testing rooms.

Registration fee of $10.00 per team.

The 2004 competition will be held in Hershey Hall. This
necessitates the limitation of the total number of students able to
participate to 200. We are asking that the schools limit their first
registrations to a total of eight students. There is a second registration
date when schools can register late or add students if there is available
space.

First Registration Deadline: December 1, 2003 through
January 9, 2004

Late Registration: After January 12, additional students may
register late on a first-come first-serve basis until January 21, 2004, if
space is available.

Students are invited to compete in the individual
competition even if your school does not send a team.
