TSU students sweep American Foundry Society scholarships

Tri-State University is pleased to announce that three students from the Wade Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering received scholarships from the Northeast Indiana American Foundry Society. Kai Hartman, Kyle Glass, and Michael Smercina received scholarships totaling $3,900 at the chapter meeting Monday, Dec. 4.

“These students really shine academically,” said Dr. Darryl Webber, the Foundry Education Foundation (FEF) Key Professor at TSU. “This says a lot about the level of our programs. There are many esteemed universities vying for these scholarships.”

According to Webber, all three students are already taking steps to further their careers in the cast metals industry. Hartman, a senior student, of Frankfort, Ind. is currently the president of the student chapter of American Foundry Society. He also received a regional level scholarship from the North American Die Casting Association (Chapter 25) in August. Glass, also a senior student, was chosen for the scholarship due to his extensive internship experience in several different types of foundries. Glass is originally from North Manchester, Ind. Smercina, a senior student, of Solon, Ohio was awarded for his foundry supplier experience.
