TSU accounting students to volunteer during CPA Day of Service

Tri-State University accounting students put their books aside to volunteer during the fourth annual CPA Day of Service.  On Friday, Sept. 22, TSU students will volunteer at four local organizations, Project Help, Literacy Coalition, Council on Aging, and Compassion Pregnancy Center, as part of a statewide event.

“This is a great way for the Ketner School of Business to help out in the community during this statewide event,” said Kim Miller, CPA and TSU assistant professor. “Our students will be volunteering to help with doing yardwork, washing vans, and making repairs.”

Statewide, more than 500 volunteers will be working at 63 locations.  Many of the locations were identified with the assistance of the United Way of Central Indiana.  Others were identified by participating CPAs.  The concept that led to the creation of the CPA Day of Service two years ago was to recognize the high level of volunteer service of Indiana CPAs.  Many Hoosier CPAs perform volunteer work in their communities, and the Indiana CPA Society itself has programs designed to match CPAs with not-for-profit organizations and encourage community outreach.

The CPA Day of Service was created to promote this level of ongoing volunteerism by dedicating a single day to volunteer service.  Accounting students at Indiana colleges also were invited to draw more people in and provide networking opportunities between CPAs and those who will be entering the CPA profession soon.
