Tri-State University is experiencing the highest enrollment numbers in recent history. This year’s growth is a five percent increase in overall enrollment, bringing the total enrollment at TSU to 1,500 students. A total of 374 new students, 321 freshmen and 53 transfer students, joined returning students this fall for a seven percent increase in new students. The University also saw a nine percent increase in resident students.
"As we welcome our new students onto campus and celebrate our growth improvement in enrollment, we continue to look toward the future and ask ourselves how we can better serve our students,” said Earl D. Brooks II, Ph.D., president of TSU. “Our students are our greatest resources, and we want to continue attracting the best and brightest to our campus."
Individually, the Allen School of Engineering and Technology and the Ketner School of Business saw the greatest increase in students. Plus, the honors program and honors villas helped to attract many more high achieving students to campus. This includes 20 freshman honors students with the average high school GPA of 3.98 and an average SAT score of 1380.
According to Scott Goplin, vice president of enrollment management, the increasing numbers can be attributed to various factors. The university’s greater visibility and competitiveness of its scholarships and financial aid program has attracted students. In addition, increased marketing efforts and a new Web site has increased prospective student pools. The university has strived to make better matches between the student and the university, increasing its academic standards and improving its academic profile. The recruitment efforts of the coaching staff to find quality student athletes have also been a driving factor in the increase.
Despite dramatic improvements, TSU plans to continue toward their goal of increasing enrollment to 2,000 students in the next five years.
