Tri-State University introduces Master of Engineering degree

ANGOLA, Ind.—Tri-State University is now offering a second graduate program for their current and future students. The Master of Engineering degree in mechanical engineering will be available the fall of 2006. TSU will hold an upcoming open house to introduce the new program.

“The rapid pace of technological advancement has resulted in a demand for engineers with advanced training,” said Dr. Roger Hawks, dean of the Allen School of Engineering and Technology. “By emphasizing advanced design skills rather than research, the Master of Engineering program uniquely addresses this need.  This program fits our mission of educating quality, work-ready engineers.”

Returning students with bachelor’s degrees can take advantage of the master’s program by taking classes at their convenience in the evening hours. In addition, TSU undergraduate students have the opportunity to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering in as little as five years through the new program.

The master’s degree requires 32 semester credits, which consist of 18 credits in mechanical engineering, three credits in mathematics, three credits of business related course work, and an eight credit design project. The design project, which is done during the summer term, will ideally involve industrial sponsorship and employment.

According to Hawks, the Master of Engineering program also provides an excellent foundation for registration as a Professional Engineer.

TSU will host a Master the Future open house on August 31 at 4 p.m. at Fawick Hall on the main campus. Participants should register online at tristate.edu. To learn more about the new graduate program, visit the Web site at www.tristate.edu/engineering/gradprograms/about.cfm.
