Bryan Middle School teacher Helene Moog has been selected as the 2006-2007 Teacher-In-Residence for Tri-State University. The purpose of the program is to provide an opportunity for a different classroom teacher each of four years to participate as a full-time faculty member in the Franks School of Education. The teacher-in-residence program is part of the Initiative to Recruit and Retain Intellectual Capital grant awarded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc. to Tri-State University.
“Her desires to conduct action research and to mentor our teacher candidates are strengths she brings to our programs,” said Sue Van Wagner, Dean of the Franks School of Education, of Moog, who is a veteran teacher currently teaching fourth grade. “She will provide important and valuable information based on her experiences with children and her involvement in the teaching/learning process. We all look forward to this special opportunity.”
A committee of seven educators and students was involved in the selection of the teacher-in-residence. That committee was chaired by Dr. Nancy Davis, a faculty member in the Franks School of Education. The committee determined Moog exhibited practical and creative teaching skills.
“Moog’s practical experience and knowledge will assist teacher candidates,” commented Davis. “Moog’s application, letters of recommendation, and interview showed her positive attitude, flexibility, creativity, and devotion to service.”
The teacher-in-residence will be involved in teaching, research, and supervisory activities.
