tsu's wentworth earns excellence award

Tri-State University Academic Support Service Director Kathie Wentworth has received the Indiana Association for Developmental Education (INADE) Outstanding Work in the Field of Developmental Education Award. Statewide award winners will be recognized at an awards luncheon Nov. 2 in Indianapolis. The awards luncheon honors outstanding students and educators as a highlight of the INADE annual convention.

Those honored were nominated by a colleague or educator who witnessed the efforts of the award recipient in completing or delivering developmental courses or supplemental activities. Dr. David Finley, TSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, provided documentation to support Wentworth’s selection.

As academic support service director, she teaches courses in the university experience, which help freshmen transition to college life. She has developed Academic Foundations programs, which help students to diagnose low skills sets and sharpen thos areas.

She helps Jannen School of Arts & Sciences students with undecided majors find additional choices and degree programs, directs the TSU Learning Center, and has developed an online tutor training module certified by the College Reading and Learning Association. She also directs student disability support services, and has chaired and been a member of the faculty curriculum and academics committee for a number of years.

“We are very pleased with INADE’s recognition of Professor Wentworth’s work in the field of developmental education,” Dr. Finley said. “Her dedication to all TSU students, whether in the classes that she teaches or in her role as Academic Support Services director, is truly exceptional.”
