Brad Grubb is Tri-State University’s new dean for the School of Professional Studies (SPS).
Former SPS Dean Jean Deller has been named Assistant Vice President for Program Development and Assessment for TSU. In this role, she will lead and assist others in developing new academic offerings throughout the five schools comprising the university, and coordinate measurement of student learning outcomes.
Grubb joins TSU after 16 years with Indiana Wesleyan University, the last four of those years as regional dean in Cincinnati, Ohio. During that time, he helped build two satellite education centers for adults. His knowledge of TSU’s role in adult education prompted his interest in the position as SPS dean.
“New challenges, new sites, and new start-ups have been very rewarding for me,” he said. Continuing to support TSU’s multiple education centers in the region, enrollment and retention, and the development of new centers will be some areas of emphasis.
He finds working with returning adult students gratifying as well. “The single parent working, caring for kids and going to school—what a load,” he said. “To see them graduate is something you remember, and keeps the value of your work in perspective. The diverse students create a unique classroom environment.”
To serve those students, he hopes “to make each site unique and attractive for the adult returning to college, and eliminate the roadblocks some perceive,” he said.
He earned master’s degrees in management and education at Ball State University and Indiana Wesleyan University, and taught at West Noble High School in the late 1970s. He performed corporate training for Chrysler Motors in Kokomo, and as an educator with the University of Detroit before joining Indiana Wesleyan.
