tsu grads desirable employees, survey shows

One hundred percent of students in 22 Tri-State University degree programs are either employed or in graduate school within six months of their May 2007 graduation, according to the latest statistics released in the Office of Career Services’ May 2007 graduate destination survey.

The survey shows 100 percent of TSU students in design technology, civil, chemical, computer, and mechanical engineering employed or in graduate school within six months of graduation, with 100 percent of design technology, civil, computer, and mechanical engineering degree holders in major-related employment or graduate schools during that period. The average salary earned by those reporting is $49,396.

Students with Ketner School of Business degrees also notched impressive statistics in the time period, with 100 percent of accounting, finance, golf management, management, management information systems, marketing, and turf grass management majors employed or in graduate school.

In the Jannen School of Arts & Sciences, 100 percent of majors in chemistry, communication, computer science, and math were either employed in major-related jobs or enrolled in graduate school in their disciplines within the six months.

Franks School of Education elementary education majors were also 100 percent employed in education or studying at graduate schools within their field within the period.

“I’m not surprised by the 100 percent employment across the variety of majors,” said Office of Career Services Director Linda Bateman. New initiatives by her office have attracted more employers to campus. “We’ve launched a new system and are increasing our outreach efforts with employers and students. We’re trying to stay in touch with both, to keep them aware we are a resource.”

TSU President Dr. Earl Brooks II said the statistics indicate the high quality education Tri-State University graduates earn. “By merging excellent teaching, internships and hands-on learning, and top-notch programs, TSU produces work-ready students prepared to rise to the top in their fields,” he said.
