A Tri-State University alumnus will be Trine University’s athletic director this fall. Jeffrey J. Posendek, who earned a bachelor’s degree in business education at TSU in 1977, will assume the position effective Aug. 1.
The job will punctuate a long history with the university. After earning a master’s degree in educational administration at Cleveland State University, Posendek served on the TSU Alumni Board of Governors and Board of Trustees for a combined 25 years, with two terms as president of the alumni board. His dedication earned him the university’s Distinguished Alumni Service Award in 2006. Posendek’s wife, Anne, also earned a TSU degree in 1977.
He has spent the past 30 years as a teacher and administrator in secondary education, most recently serving as unit principal at Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Ohio. Areas of emphasis have included advising students and working in student activities and extracurricular programs.
He was named Ohio Assistant Principal of the Year by the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators and the National Association of Secondary School Principals in 2004 for his contributions in problem solving, improving the educational climate, involving the community, and developing student learning.
“I will continue my strong support of student-athletes and emphasize the importance of providing leadership, role models, and programs that develop their academic and athletic success,” Posendek said.
“We are pleased to welcome Jeff into yet another service role at his alma mater,” said TSU President Earl D. Brooks II. “His dedication to the university and demonstrated professional excellence will enhance our efforts to develop students to their highest potential. Athletics are integral to our campus culture and our commitment to enhance each student-athlete’s total educational experience.”
Dr. Brooks commended TSU’s assistant athletic director, Rob Harmon, for his role as interim athletic director. “We are grateful for Rob’s fine work as interim athletic director. We will count on his abilities as he continues to manage athletics until Jeff takes over on Aug. 1,” he said.
The Posendeks will be relocating to the Angola area. They have two sons, Scott, of Columbus, Ohio, and Brian, who is pursuing teaching licensure at TSU.
