tsu-ivy tech agreement links education programs

TSU Vice President for Academic Affairs David R. Finley, left front, and Ivy Tech Chancellor Dr. Mark Keen, right front, sign an articulation agreement allowing Ivy Tech students in a two-year elementary education program to transfer into TSU’s four-year elementary education degree program. At back right is Dr. Sue Van Wagner, dean of TSU’s Franks School of Education, with other Ivy Tech officials.

An agreement signed May 10 with Ivy Tech in Fort Wayne now makes possible the transfer of a two-year Ivy Tech elementary education program to the elementary education program in the Tri-State University Franks School of Education.

The articulation agreement between TSU and Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast makes transfer credit easier to attain by students of either campus, especially students who have completed two-year programs at Ivy Tech and who wish to pursue baccalaureate degrees at TSU.

According to Dr. Sue Van Wagner, dean of the Franks School of Education, a student may enroll in the associate degree education/elementary program at Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast, complete 62 prescribed hours with grades of C or better, and transfer all semester hours toward the bachelor’s degree program in elementary education at TSU in Angola.

The arrangement benefits the two-year transfer students. Ivy Tech students meeting the criteria have a chance to build on their two-year degrees at a private institution, emerging with a four-year TSU degree at less cost while sacrificing none of their credits. “We want to be in the forefront of offering these opportunities for future teachers,” Van Wagner said.
