The Tri-State University Drama Club will conduct auditions for its spring production, “The Butler Did It,” on Jan. 15 and 16 in Wells Theater, Taylor Hall, from 6:30-8 p.m.
“The Butler Did It,” written by Walter and Peter Marks and produced by special arrangement with Dramatists Publishing Inc., focuses on writer-director Anthony J. Lefcourt, who hopes to regain the success of his recent seasons. To produce the best performance from the cast for his new play, a classic “whodunit” in which all the characters are named Butler, Lefcourt deliberately withholds the final scene of the play from them. His patience worn thin with jealousies and romantic rivalries that detract from his cast’s performance, he stages the murder of one of the actresses hoping to reengage them in their work.
The play’s plot twists and turns so much, the actors and audience will lose track of what is real till the surprise ending.
The production will be directed by Tri-State Drama Club president Kevin Dahlstrom, with the help of stage manger Erik Evans. Four male and two female parts will be cast, and auditions are open to all TSU students.
